7-STATION BATTERY

The Station Battery was located in the grounds of what was at the time the recently annexed (1870) Abando district, next to the Tudela-Bilbao Railway station, the location of the present-day Indalecio Prieto station. The location of the present-day La Concordia-FEVE station was the space devoted to the Bilbao-Tudela Railway warehouses. They were used as barracks for both the Regional Guard and the Station Battery artillerymen.
The Fueros Bridge was nearby, built near República de Abando in 1869 by Sabino Goicoechea. It is similar to San Francisco Bridge, perhaps because it was designed by his father Antonio Goicoechea. It was destroyed in the bombardment of 20 March 1874, after a short life of five years. The only visible remains of the bridge today is a projection on Naja Wharf, opposite Calle Santa María.
